Blending Contemporary Design with Scandinavian Simplicity

We have seen many, many Scandinavian interiors over the years, but none bring together contemporary interior design and classic Scandinavian style quite like the home of Linda-Mathilde Sjursheim.

Linda-Mathilde has taken the beautiful aspects of Scandinavian style that we know and love, and used them to create not only a beautiful, but also functional, modern home for her family.

Despite always having a keen interest in interiors as a real estate broker, it wasn’t until she began renovating her first apartment that Linda-Mathilde really fell in love with interior design. From then, she wanted to pursue her passion further.

Image In 2017, Linda-Mathilde began a whole new interior project when she and her husband bought a house in Moss that was built in 1955. “The house was in need of what we like to call an ‘extreme makeover'” she says.

After months of intensive renovations, Linda-Mathilde and her family were finally able to move into their new home. It was at this point that she began her Instagram @carlberg_home, sharing the progress of their ongoing home updates.

Now complete, their stunning home is the epitome of Scandinavian design. Linda-Mathilde successfully incorporated the simplicity of classic Scandinavian design into the home without compromising the modern style or functionality.

We’re talking clean lines, wood details and simple colours. “I love the light,” says Linda-Mathilde, “especially with the roof windows.”

Considered an organised person, Linda-Mathilde wanted her home to reflect this aspect of her personality and achieved this with a distinct lack of clutter. “The only problem is that I have two kids (three if you count my husband) and a dog, who make everything a mess and chaos on a daily basis” she says.

Image Linda-Mathilde is a big fan of the classic minimal colour schemes that are associated with Scandinavian design, which explains why the majority of her home is beautifully monochrome. That’s not to say that her home is barren of colour, you can see effortless pops of colour throughout the interior in the form of plants, blankets and pillows.

She also opted for a navy blue feature wall (that was previously sea green) in her living area that creates a gorgeous, moody backdrop to the room. “I was styling another house and it just struck me that dark blue and wood really sings to me” she says.

When it comes to her lovely home, Linda-Mathilde has no regrets. ” I would do it all over again in another future home” she says.
